Hummer Winblad Venture Partners is seeking out the software industry's next humdinger. The venture capital firm was founded in 1989 by John Hummer and Ann Winblad to invest in start-up software firms in the US and abroad. The firm often takes an active role in directing the companies in which they invest. Its current portfolio includes stakes in some 35 companies involved in desktop software, embedded systems, distributed network computing, e-commerce, on-demand computing, software as a service, and security and identity management. Holdings include Aria Systems, Martin Dawes Systems, Voltage Security, and Yosemite Technologies.
