France Telecom hopes it can do for telecommunications services what its countrymen have done for wine: make it the product of choice. The company provides consumer and business fixed-line and wireless voice and data services, primarily through its Orange brands. France Telecom serves about 175 million customers on five continents. The company is a leading European wireless operator and broadband service provider, with about 115 million mobile customers and 12 million broadband clients. It has moved to simplify its branding in recent years, as well as to expand services for corporate clients that are served through its Orange Business Services unit. The French government owns about 27% of France Telecom.
