TranSwitch lets makers of network gear switch the functions of its chips in transit. The company designs digital and mixed-signal semiconductors used in high-speed telecommunications and computer networking equipment; some of its chips are programmable, allowing buyers to tailor them swiftly for specialized functions. The company outsources manufacturing operations to several companies, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing. Transwitch's 125-plus active customers include Alcatel-Lucent (17% of sales), Cisco Systems, Fujitsu, Nokia Siemens Networks (16%), Nortel, Redback Networks, Samsung, and Tellabs. The company gets about 80% of its sales outside the US.
