Boston Properties knows more than beans about real estate. The firm invests in, develops, and manages primarily Class A office buildings. In addition to Boston, the self-administered real estate investment trust (REIT) focuses on the markets in Midtown Manhattan, San Francisco, and Washington, DC. Boston Properties' portfolio includes about 150 buildings, including development and redevelopment projects. In 2008 the REIT acquired 60% ownership of the iconic GM Building, previously owned by Macklowe Properties, for $2.8 billion, a record price for a US office building. Chairman Mort Zuckerman, the media czar of "U.S. News & World Report" and New York's "Daily News", owns a 7% stake of Boston Properties.
