Go ahead, believe the hype. Bayerische Hypo- und Vereinsbank (HypoVereinsbank, or HVB Group) is one of Germany's largest banks, after Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank. The company operates some 650 branches throughout the country as well some 30 offices abroad. HVB is organized into four divisions: retail banking, wealth management, corporate and commercial real estate financing, and markets and investment banking. Italian banking giant UniCredit acquired most of HVB's shares in 2005; three years later it bought the rest of HVB and took it off the public market.
