Imperial Oil, Canada's largest oil company, holds sway over a vast empire of oil and gas resources. It has proved reserves of 694 million barrels of oil and 593 billion cu. ft. of natural gas. Imperial is one of Canada's top natural gas producers, the #1 refiner and marketer of petroleum products, and a major supplier of petrochemicals. It sells petroleum products, including gasoline, heating oil, and diesel fuel, under the Esso name and other brand names. Most of the company's production comes from fields in Alberta and the Northwest Territories. Imperial also owns 25% of Syncrude Canada, which operates the world's largest oil sands development. Exxon Mobil owns about 70% of Imperial.
