Continental AG keeps rolling along as Germany's largest manufacturer of tires for cars, trucks, bicycles, and agricultural products. Its Rubber Group is comprised of the Tires division (sold under the Continental, Uniroyal, and General brands), as well as the ContiTech division which produces power transmission systems, conveyor belts, and vibration control systems. The Automotive Group is Continental's largest segment (over 60% of sales); it makes electronic brake and traction control systems, chassis and powertrain products, and hydraulic brake systems. Continental became an acquisition target in mid-2008 when bearing manufacturer Schaeffler made an unsolicited $17.8 billion bid to purchase the tire maker.
