This company is the king of all Canadian media, or at least the operations of Quebecor Media. Quebecor is a holding company that owns 55% of Quebecor Media, a publicly traded conglomerate with telecommunications, broadcasting, publishing, and retail assets. Though Quebecor itself has no real operations, it has given the Péladeau family, led by Pierre Karl Péladeau, a vehicle to build its business empire mostly through acquisitions. (The Péladeau family owns about 85% of Quebecor and controls some 70% of its votes.) That activity has propelled the clan into the ranks of Canada's biggest media owners, a club that includes the Thomson family (Thomson Reuters) and the family of Ted Rogers (Rogers Communications).
