Aphton says, "Just block it!" The company is developing immunogen-based drugs primarily for the treatment of gastrointestinal cancers. The drugs neutralize or block hormones that play a key role in such diseases as stomach, liver, pancreatic, and prostate cancers, as well as stomach ulcers and gastro-esophageal reflux disease. Aphton has halted work on lead candidate Insegia, an anti-gastrin vaccine to combat pancreatic cancer, because it lacks the funding to continue work. Aphton is shifting its focus to two other cancer drug candidates in early stages of development.
