Breaking rocks in the hot sun is no punishment for heavy building materials company Hanson Limited; it's the job. The company produces aggregates (crushed rock, sand, and gravel), ready-mixed and precast concrete, asphalt, and buildings products ranging from concrete pipes to clay bricks. About half of its sales are made in the US, with 30% coming from the UK. It also has operations in continental Europe, Asia, and Australia. Its products are sold primarily for use in infrastructure projects but also for residential, industrial, and commercial jobs. Hanson was bought by Germany-based aggregates giant HeidelbergCement in 2007.
