Tishman Realty & Construction is an immigrant story of massive proportions. Founded by Julius Tishman, who emigrated from Poland in 1885 and began building tenements in 1898, it is now one of the nation's leading property development and management companies, offering a full menu of real estate services including design, construction supervision, and property management. Since its inception, the company has built about 300 million square feet of all types of buildings. High-profile projects handled by the company include Disney World's EPCOT Center, Madison Square Garden, the ill-fated World Trade Center (and the future Freedom Tower), and Chicago's John Hancock Center. It is still owned by the Tishman family.
