Specialized Bicycle Components didn't set out to make a museum piece, but the company's original Stumpjumper (the first mass-produced mountain bike) is now permanently parked inside the Smithsonian Institution. The 1981 introduction of the Stumpjumper established Specialized as a top-seller in bike shops, where it ranks with other big manufacturers, such as Trek, for high-end cycles. The company also makes road bikes, commuter/city bikes, children's bikes, and BMX bikes. In addition to cycles, Specialized produces apparel and shoes, bags, eyewear, helmets, and bicycling parts and accessories, including crank sets, saddles, and mountable computers.
