J Sainsbury's trolly is getting back on track. The UK's third-largest grocery seller (after Tesco and ASDA) runs the long-struggling Sainsbury's Supermarkets chain of some 500 grocery stores throughout the UK. The supermarkets get about 50% of their sales from private-label products. The company's fast-growing Sainsbury's Online division operates in about 150 supermarkets and covers more than 85% of the UK population. In addition to supermarkets, the firm operates about 290 convenience stores under the Sainsbury's Local, Bells, and Jacksons banners. About 245 of the shops sell gas. Sainsbury also owns half of Sainsbury's Bank (in a 50-50 joint venture with Scottish bank HBOS) and a property development company.
