"Simplify, simplify." Name-wise, HM Capital -- formerly Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst -- seems to have taken Thoreau's advice to heart. HM Capital creates investment pools from investors (pension funds, financial institutions, and wealthy private investors) in the form of limited partnerships. The leveraged buyout firm typically targets underperforming companies in specific niches (including cable TV, radio, gas production and transmission, and branded foods), builds them up, and sells them or spins them off in IPOs. HM Capital also has holdings in manufacturing.
