If you're building a house or fixing one up, you might as well Do it Best -- at least that's the hope of the one of the hardware industry's largest cooperatives. Do it Best boasts more than 4,100 member-owned stores in 47 countries worldwide, primarily in the US. Besides the usual tools and building materials, merchandise includes automotive items, bicycles, camping gear, housewares, office supplies, and small appliances. The co-op, whose buying power enables members to get retail items at competitive prices, also offers unifying branding programs using the Do it Best and Do it Center names. Do it Best (formerly Hardware Wholesalers) began in 1945; it bought the Our Own Hardware co-op in 1998.
