Flying J puts out a welcome mat for truckers in North America. From its beginnings in 1968 with four locations, the firm has become a leading diesel-fuel distributor and truck- stop operator in the US -- with more than 270 amenity-loaded Flying J Travel Plazas and fuel stops in some 40 US states and six Canadian provinces. Flying J goes beyond the usual truck-stop fare (food, fuel, showers) by offering extra services, including banking, bulk-fuel programs, wireless Internet connections, fuel-cost analysis, insurance, and truck-fleet sales. It also owns Longhorn Pipeline Holdings (LPH), the operator of a 700-mile-long pipeline across Texas. Flying J is being acquired out of bankruptcy by Pilot Travel Centers.
