In Greek and Roman mythology, Apollo is the god of light, medicine, arts, and archery, but Apollo Advisors is even more diverse. Also known as Apollo Management, the leveraged buyout specialist invests in a wide variety of industries. Its portfolio holdings include movie theater chain AMC Entertainment, Berry Plastics, CEVA Logistics, realty franchiser Realogy, Jacuzzi Brands, specialty manufacturer RBS Global, and Hexion Specialty Chemicals. Apollo joined forces with TPG to purchase gaming company Harrah's Entertainment for nearly $28 billion in early 2008. Founded in 1990, Apollo initially earned a reputation for being a vulture investor by specializing in distressed assets.
