Stormy weather in the manufactured housing market hasn't snowed American Homestar. The company produces factory-built, modular and multi-section and single-section manufactured homes that sell for about half the price of comparable site-built homes. Its modular homes range from 1,200 to 2,600 sq. ft; its multi-section homes can have as many as six bedrooms. American Homestar sells its homes through company-owned retail centers in the south and the southeast; independent dealers; and through sales centers in manufactured housing communities. Other operations include insurance and mortgage services.
