Sexual dysfunction is serious business at VIVUS, which develops treatments for erectile dysfunction (ED) and other sexual disorders. The drugmaker's MUSE product is a small, disposable plastic applicator that dispenses a localized dose of the drug alprostadil as a treatment for ED. VIVUS sells the drug through a direct sales force in the US and through a distribution agreement with Swedish firm Meda in Europe. Candidates in the company's pipeline focus on treating sexual dysfunction in both men and women, as well as obesity and diabetes. VIVUS sold its menopause treatment EvaMist to K-V Pharmaceutical in 2007, shortly before the drug received FDA approval.
