Severstal North America makes flat-rolled carbon steel products (hot-rolled, cold-rolled, electrogalvanized, and hot-dip galvanized), which is sold largely to automakers. Other customers are converters and service centers that make roof decking, energy industry tubular products, grating, and appliances. It also has joint ventures with a handful of specialized steel processors to increase its line of value-added products. Severstal North America operates a couple of large steel plants that had been run by other, larger companies until parent company Severstal swooped in. Russian steel producer Severstal has steadily built up its North American operations greatly since it formed this unit in 2004.
