TriQuint fills it up with GaAs. TriQuint Semiconductor uses specialized materials -- such as gallium arsenide (GaAs), gallium nitride, and quartz -- instead of silicon as the substrate for its analog, digital, and mixed-signal integrated circuits (ICs). GaAs ICs operate at greater speeds than silicon chips, or at the same speeds with less power consumption. TriQuint's ICs are used in aerospace gear, fiber-optic and satellite telecommunications equipment, mobile phones, and wireless networking equipment. Customers include Boeing, Ericsson, Motorola, Nokia, Raytheon, and Samsung Electronics. TriQuint also offers contract design and fabrication services. About 70% of sales comes from outside the US.
