In the family of communications semiconductor makers, Beceem Communications was of the fourth generation. The company designed, developed, and supplied semiconductors used in 4G wireless and mobile broadband devices, including smartphones, modems, gateways, mobile routers, and laptops. The company, which partnered with Clearwire, Sprint Nextel, and other companies for development of its products, sold to manufacturers and telecom equipment makers like Accton, Quanta, Uniquest Corp., and ZTE. Most of its sales were made in Asia. Founded in 2003, Beceem filed for an IPO in 2010. The company was acquired by Broadcom for $316 million that year.
