Apollo Commercial Real Estate Finance is taking one giant leap into the mortgage universe. The company was formed in 2009 by Apollo Global Management to be a mortgage real estate investment trust (REIT). Externally managed by ACREFI Management (an indirect subsidiary of Apollo Global Management), the firm plans to use proceeds from its 2009 IPO to invest in performing, non-distressed, US commercial real estate loans, commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS), and other commercial real estate debt investments. Apollo Commercial Real Estate Finance expects its average investment to range between $25 million and $75 million.
