Bankers Petroleum didn't balk at setting up shop in the Balkan peninsula. The company has oil exploration and production operations in the southeastern European country of Albania. Bankers has about 200 active oil wells and the leased rights from the Albanian government to extract crude from two large oil reserves near the Adriatic Sea. Patos Marinza, Europe's largest onshore oilfield, produces almost 7,000 barrels of oil per day from proven reserves of 2 billion barrels. The Kuçova oilfield holds more than 300 million barrels of proven reserves; Bankers Petroleum expects to begin production there in 2009.
