American Hospitality Concepts (AHC), which operates the Ground Round Grill & Bar chain, was itself ground through tough times. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and closed most of its 58 company-owned locations in February 2004. While franchised Ground Round units continue to operate AHC is selling its franchise rights. A pioneer in the casual-dining segment, Ground Round offers a variety of American standards and ethnic specialties. Ground Round was founded in 1969 as a division of Howard Johnson (now owned by Cendant). Backed by Boston Ventures Management, AHC acquired the chain in 1997.
