Friedman's Inc. Company Profile
Friedman's is trying its best to retain its sparkle despite a second trip into bankruptcy in three years. The company is a leading US operator of jewelry stores with about 390 Friedman's and 85 Crescent Jewelers shops in 20-plus states. Most of the company's stores are located in shopping centers anchored by mass merchandisers such as Wal-Mart or Target. Friedman's caters primarily to low- to middle-income consumers between the ages of 18 and 45. Diamond and gemstone jewelry accounts for a majority of the company's sales, with the rest coming from watches and other jewelry for men and women. Amid slumping sales, Friedman's filed for Chaper 11 Bankruptcy protection in January 2008.
