Robotic Vision Systems, Inc. (RVSI) can spot a mistake a zillionth of an inch away. The company makes equipment that moves, inspects, and illuminates semiconductors during the manufacturing process. RVSI relied on customers in the semiconductor industry for more than half of its sales. However, because of losses in its semiconductor equipment business (tied in part to poor conditions across the chip industry), the company put the business up for sale. RVSI filed for Chapter 11 protection from creditors in late 2004. Ancora Management, an investment firm, acquired the assets of the semiconductor equipment business in April 2005, rechristening it RVSI Inspection.
