Its employs encryption technology in USB identity tokens and smart cards, virtual private networks (VPNs) and security appliances, and software antipiracy and digital rights management products. SafeNet sells software and hardware systems, as well as components that third parties embed in their own products. Its customers include financial institutions, government agencies, and large corporations. The company was acquired by technology buyout specialist Vector Capital for $634 million in 2007 and taken private.
