Greenbrier Rail Services (formerly Meridian Rail) provides products and services for the freight railroad industry. The company offers new and reconditioned replacement wheel sets and axles for railcars through its six facilities. Greenbrier Rail Services also performs coupler reconditioning and railcar repair services. The company was formed in 2002 when investment firm Three Cities Research acquired bankrupt railroad equipment maker ABC-NACO; Three Cities sold its stake in the company to the Olympus Partners and members of Meridian's management in 2004. In late 2006 Olympus sold Meridian to The Greenbrier Companies for about $227 million.
