Air Methods flies to the rescue for people needing intensive medical care. With a fleet of about 320 medically equipped aircraft, mainly helicopters, the company provides emergency medical air transportation services throughout the US. The company's community-based division, which accounts for most of Air Methods' sales, provides transportation and in-flight medical care from its own bases in more than 20 states. Its hospital-based division contracts with hospitals in more than 30 states to transport critically ill patients to trauma centers or tertiary care facilities; under the hospital-based model, the hospitals themselves provide in-flight medical personnel.
