Wind River Systems' sails are billowing with embedded systems. The company provides operating systems and development tools for embedded systems (composed of a microprocessor and related software) used in such diverse products as cellular phones, auto braking systems, Internet routers, jet fighter control panels, and traffic signals. Wind River is targeting set-top boxes, digital cameras, mobile phones, and other appliances for future growth. Wind River's customers come from a variety of markets, including aerospace, automotive, digital imaging, industrial measurement, medical, and networking. In July 2009 the company was acquired by Intel for $884 million.
