ABBYY wants to translate information into profits. The company develops linguistic and artificial intelligence software used for capturing and translating documents. Its products include software that converts or combines documents into editable electronic formats and developer tools for integrating translation and recognition processes into programs and enterprise-wide applications. ABBYY's Lingvo translation software (Russian to nine languages, including Latin, and back again) is the most widely used dictionary software in Russia. The company has locations in Ukraine, the US, Cyprus, Japan, Germany, the UK, and Russia. Chairman David Yang founded BIT Software in 1989; it became ABBYY in 1997.
