As an alternative to a seat on a commercial jet, Avantair offers a share of a private jet. The company sells fractional ownership interests in Piaggio Avanti P.180 jet aircraft. More expensive than commercial flights, but cheaper than owning a plane, fractional ownership of the fuel-efficient light jets enables travelers to schedule their own flights, generally from smaller airports. Ownership can be purchased in increments beginning with a 1/16th share of a jet, which covers 50 hours of flight time per year. The company's fleet includes about 50 Avanti aircraft. Avantair, which operates from facilities in California, Florida, and New Jersey, offers service throughout the US, Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas.
