Gathering momentum after its spinoff from General Electric, Momentive Performance Materials is ready to take on the world. The company manufactures silicone, quartz, and ceramic products for everything from adhesive labels to hair care products to pesticides. Silicone is used by makers of a vast array of products, both because of its ability to provide resistance to heat, UV rays, and chemical reactions, and because it allows for different levels of lubricity and adhesion. Its quartz and ceramic products go into semiconductors, cosmetics, and fiber optics. Created in 2006 after GE sold its former Advanced Materials unit to Apollo Management, the company operates globally through about 25 production plants.
