The nexus of intercellular communication is protein and Adnexus plans to capitalize on that. The company makes protein-based drugs called Adnectins, which it believes deliver disease-fighting results superior to antibodies and small molecules. The Adnectins, when combined with the company's PROfusion protein-generation system, combat cancer and musculo-skeletal, neurodegenerative, and autoimmune diseases. The company hopes to avoid patent issues for already existing drugs because Adnectins have a different composition. Adnexus is a subsidiary of Bristol-Myers Squibb.
