Airvana can help you rock out to Nirvana. The company makes mobile broadband infrastructure products for wireless carriers. Its products enable wireless networks to deliver broadband multimedia services -- such as Internet access, e-mail, music downloads, and video streaming -- to cell phones, laptops, and other mobile devices. Customers have included service providers such as Verizon Wireless in the US, TELUS in Canada, Telstra in Australia; however, nearly all of its revenue was derived from sales to Nortel Networks (which filed for bankruptcy in early 2009). Airvana agreed to be acquired by 72 Mobile Holdings for about $530 million in late 2009. The company will be taken private by its new owners.
