School bus, car, truck, snowmobile, or motorcycle, it's got to be registered with the DMV. The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (NYDMV) is responsible for issuing commercial and private driver's licenses, state IDs, license plates, and vehicle registrations. New York's personalized license plates include those for acupuncturists, NASCAR fans, arts supporters, and college alumni. NYDMV also publishes driving manuals, publishes statistics on the state's vehicle accidents and issues permits and stickers for all-terrain vehicle trails, high-occupancy-vehicle lanes, annual vehicle inspections, and private boats. NYDMV has moved to online acess for almost all of its services.
