When this Horton heard a Who, it built the little guy a house. D.R. Horton builds single-family homes designed for the entry-level and move-up markets. Homes range from 1,000 sq. ft. to 5,000 sq. ft., with an average selling price of about $233,500; luxury homes cost up to $900,000. In fiscal 2008 the company sold some 26,000 homes, a 35% drop from the previous year. D.R. Horton operates in about 30 states and provides mortgage financing (through DHI Mortgage) as well as title services. One of the top homebuilders in the US, D.R. Horton has suffered along with its competitors as a result of the housing market bust, the subprime mortgage crisis, the global credit crunch, and years of industrywide overbuilding.
