Manor Care is a lord of the manor in the nursing home kingdom. Operating as HCR Manor Care, the company runs about 275 nursing homes in 30 states under the Heartland and ManorCare names, along with another 65 assisted-living and outpatient facilities (some operating under the Arden Courts and Springhouse names). Some of its centers house specialty units that provide post-acute medical care, rehabilitation therapy, and services for Alzheimer's patients. Manor Care also offers hospice and home health services through offices in 25 states. It has sold its medical transcription business, which converted medical dictation into electronic patient records. It is owned by private equity firm The Carlyle Group.
