Manor Care is a lord of the manor in the nursing home kingdom. Operating as HCR Manor Care, the firm runs about 500 nursing homes, assisted living centers, and rehabilitation facilities in about 30 states. Its facilities, which operate under the names Heartland, ManorCare Health Services, and Arden Courts, provide not only long-term nursing care, but also rehabilitation services and short-term, post-acute care for patients recovering from serious illness or injury; many of them house special units for Alzheimer's patients. In addition to its nursing and assisted-living facilities, Manor Care offers hospice and home health care through offices across the US. It is owned by private equity firm The Carlyle Group.
