With dozens of health care facilities in more than 30 states and Puerto Rico, Universal Health Services (UHS) isn't quite ubiquitous, but it's working on it. One of the largest for-profit hospital operators in the nation, UHS owns or leases more than 25 acute care hospitals with more than 6,000 total beds, as well as nine outpatient surgery centers, radiation therapy centers, and surgical hospitals. In addition to these medical facilities, UHS runs more than 100 psychiatric and substance abuse hospitals. The company's facilities are located mainly in smaller towns and cities with limited competition, but it does have operations in some larger markets, including Las Vegas, Memphis, and Austin, Texas.
