This company was to air its views on American airwaves. Piquant owns and operates the Air America Radio (AAR) network, which broadcasts news and talk shows with a liberal bent on about 60 affiliate stations around the country. The radio network, launched in 2004, boasts such on-air personalities as Ron Kuby, Laura Flanders, and Rachel Maddow. In addition to terrestrial broadcasts, Air America also distributes programming through satellite radio service SIRIUS XM Radio and online through its Web site. Piquant is controlled by New York real estate developer Stephen Green through Green Family Media; Democracy Allies LLC, a group that includes RealNetworks CEO Robert Glaser has a minority stake.
