Private equity firm Stone Point Capital manages the Trident Funds, which are invested in a variety of insurance and financial services companies. The company seeks a controlling or substantial minority stake in companies involved in insurance, including underwriting, brokerage, and insurance services, as well as the employee benefits, asset management, banking, and specialty finance sectors. The company, which typically invests between $25 million and $300 million per transaction, has more than $10 billion in committed capital. Stone Point was formed in 2005 when Marsh & McLennan spun off its private equity business, formerly MMC Capital, to the unit's principals.
