Q-Cells has its eye in the sky and its purpose in the future of what the sun can do. The Germany-based company is an independent manufacturer of solar cells (photovoltaics). It is also in the process of developing additional solar technologies and the commercialization of those products, raising each unit's energy production capability more than 50% over conventional cells. Q-Cells was founded in 1999 with the production of silicon wafer-based solar cells. It first floated as a public company in 2005, and opened a Hong Kong office that year. Dutch investment company Good Energies Investments owns 29% of Q-Cells.
