Japan's biggest retail conglomerate, Seven & I Holdings caters to six of the so-called seven deadly sins (saving wrath for its competition). The "seven" of the company's title reflects the seven areas of business that it is involved with: convenience stores, superstores, restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, financial services, and IS/IT services. The "holding" part of the firm's name consists of its five subsidiaries: Seven-Eleven Japan (parent of 7-Eleven in the US), Ito-Yokado, Sogo & Seibu Co., Seven & I Food Holdings, and York-Benimaru. Created in 2005 after stock-transfer agreements absorbing its subsidiaries into the company took effect, Seven & I operates some 33,000 stores worldwide.
