Celldex Therapeutics sees a future when a vaccine can end brain cancer and prevent the spread of cholera. It's lead candidate, CDX-110, is in late-stage clinical trials to treat malignant glioblastoma brain tumors. The biotech company has candidates in development for other types of tumors, and is developing oral vaccines to protect against maladies such as E. coli, cholera, and typhoid. The company developed Rotarix, an FDA-approved vaccine that combats rotavirus infection, which causes diarrhea and vomiting in infants; partner GlaxoSmithKline sells the product worldwide. The firm, formerly named AVANT Immunotherapeutics, merged with privately held biotech Celldex Therapeutics in 2008 and took on its name.
