For PMC-Sierra, success is all about networking. PMC's 350 communications and storage semiconductors and microprocessors make the connection for a broad marketplace -- metro, access, fiber to the home, wireless infrastructure, storage, laser printers, and fiber access gateway equipment. OEM customers include Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco Systems, EMC, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, and ZTE. PMC's switches, mappers, multiplexers, and other chips handle an alphabet soup of protocols -- IP, PON, SONET, SDH, WDM SAS, SATA, SAN and NAS. The fabless semiconductor company outsources production of its chips primarily to independent Asian foundries such as Chartered Semiconductor and Taiwan Semiconductor.
