Paper, plastic, or Internet -- First Data moves the money. The company covers virtually all the bases when it comes to transaction processing and funds transfer. Primary segments include commercial services and financial services (merchant and debit network processing, check verification, prepaid cards, statement and card processing), and First Data International. Through its integrated payment segment, the company also provides official checks and money orders, remote clearing, and similar services. Subsidiary TeleCheck provides paper check processing services, although the use of paper checks has been dropping steadily. Investment firm KKR bought First Data in 2007.
