Granite Construction is paving its way coast to coast. The holding company operates through its main subsidiary, Granite Construction Company, a transportation and heavy construction contractor that works on public infrastructure projects ranging from airports, bridges, and dams to highways, mass transit systems, and tunnels. For private-sector firms, it performs site preparation for residential and commercial development. The company is aligned geographically into two divisions: Granite West and Granite East. One of its biggest customers is the California Department of Transportation, which accounts for 10% of revenues. Public sector projects in California account for nearly a quarter of its total revenues.
