It was hard and it took drive, but Maxtor has become a leader in its market. The company makes 3.5-in. hard disk drives used in PCs made by manufacturers such as Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Fujitsu Siemens, and IBM. Computer manufacturers account for more than half of Maxtor's sales. Other customers include distributors and computer and electronics retailers. Maxtor drives are also used in servers and consumer electronics. The company, which has plants in Singapore and the US, develops storage media through its MMC Technology subsidiary; most of MMC's disks are used in Maxtor products. Maxtor was acquired by Seagate in May 2006.
