Manitowoc sells its boom cranes, tower cranes, telescopic cranes, and related equipment to companies in the construction and mining industries. The company, which began at the turn of the 20th century as a shipbuilder, sold its shipbuilding and ship repair business to Fincantieri Cantieri Navali Italiani in 2008 for about $120 million in cash.
